He has been playing in the mountains and the oceans around his native Ísafjörður all his life. He is a Naval Architect and Ocean Yachtmaster and has been skippering Aurora since 2006 and Arktika since 2016.
His work and play has taken him all over the world: from skiing in Canada, climbing in the Alps, kayaking in Greenland to sailing in Antarctica. Siggi has worked for mountain rescue teams in Iceland for many years and received training in first-aid, mountaineering, mountain rescue, avalanche rescue etc.
His passion for the lands and cultures of the North Atlantic and the Arctic is second only to his enthusiasm about sharing this with new friends. He is a great cook and enjoys coming up with new recipes from local delicacies.
Haukur. Marketing, mate and guide. Born and raised in Iceland’s Westfjords. Visual anthropologist by education, photographer and film maker. Various diplomas and certificates. Been around the world and speaks five languages. Passion for the outdoors, world travels and good old fashioned adventures.
Jón Ottó is an engineer and a hydrologist, he grew up in Isafjordur and is a lifelong friend of captain Siggi. He was a ships engineer for several years before he moved to Norway to study hydrology/limnology and now works for the Icelandic Meteorological Office as a field hydrologist. His sports background is in hiking,skiing, sailing, kayaking and diving among other things. Has been first mate of Aurora in trips to Jan Mayen and Greenland.
Vidar is RYA Yachtmaster Offshore. In previous life he was a full time carpenter, until 2012 when he moved to Isafjordur to pursuit a more active lifestyle. Has been working around Aurora Arktika for the last 3 years as a crew member, guide, maintenance and lately as captain. Takes on whatever each season has to offer; skiing, biking, climbing or sailing.
Guðjón Snær Steindórsson sometimes joins us as first mate on longer expeditions. He holds the RYA Yacht-master Offshore licence and has many years experience in sailing, like Trans-Atlantic, Greenland’s east coast, Faro Islands, Scotland and the coast of Iceland. Guðjón has also been sailing in warmer climate in Turkey and the Caribbean. He is also a mountain guide, with great experience in climbing, both in rock and ice. He has also had diving license for decades.
Hoskuldur has years of experience in guiding kayak trips in the Iceland and Greenland. His real expertise and passion, however, lies in the history and geography of the Federation of Russia where he has caught giant salmons with his bare hands and paddled class-5 rapids on assignment for the Natural Habitat.
